Introducing UWL Musical Talents
Written by Maria Edaferhoro on 7 May 2018
West London is home to many music venues and music hotspots such as: Hammersmith Apollo, Shepherd’s Bush Empire, and the London Palladium; not to mention it’s where the Notting Hill Carnival takes place every year. Having said that, it’s no surprise that UWL is home to some of the most musically talented students supplying a diverse range of music genres, accommodating everyone from die-hard rock fans to swinging smooth jazz enthusiasts.
UWL music students (like the rest of us), are a hard-working bunch balancing their studies with their music. So, highlighting their great music and talents is something we strive to do. These artists that we are proud to call our own, are doing big things and we are proud to introduce you to a few that are buzzing right now.
Having such hip influences such as Dua Lipa, Halsey, Zara Larsson and Drake’s protégé Jorja Smith, Liza White is a force not to be reckoned with that is definitely on our radar for the one to watch. The 20-year-old Pop singer gives a fresh take on Pop, and we’re definitely here for it. Liza is currently preparing for her first ever EP and we can’t wait. Her next gig is at the Notting Hill Arts Club with fellow LCM artists Zeta.
What do you get when you put four guys from different musical genres into a band? Behop. They are a band that draw inspiration from Indie to Funk and each have different instrumental skills to go along with it.
When your main musical influence is Taylor Swift, it instantly says something about you as an artist, and it’s quite frightening… but good frightening. Zeta’s emotive lyrics and powerful vocals makes her music a delight to listen to and is infused with a dark ethereal sound. Her single ‘bloodshot’ that was released in February this year, is a track about overcoming mistakes- which makes it very relatable and authentic. Her EP will be released this June and we can’t wait.
Denzel is a Hip-Hop artist hailing from North London that raps and sings. If that isn’t impressive enough, we don’t know what else is. His lyrics are gritty, and he keeps things real speaking on important issues such as social pressures, personal struggles and challenges he
faced growing up. He’s fashionable with a very well put-together style that you can see for yourself in his recently released single ‘Gold’.
